Those new to research may feel daunted by it or may not understand the importance of it.

If you have had no experience with research before it is difficult to engage with it, that is why the collaboration between NICHE Leeds and our partners is so important.

We work differently; research is created together. It isn’t professors or doctors deciding what needs to be investigated. Instead, its care homeowners, carer home staff, people living in the home, and their loved ones, telling us what is important to them.

Researchers go into home and ask questions, they don’t probe or judge, they want to understand the realities of working and living in a care home. They listen, identifying areas where there could be greater support.

Together we can improve the quality of life for residents, the quality of care they receive, and the quality of staffing.
